3 sessions:

1. Introduce 3D printing and objects that can be used to practically and aesthetically modify a scooter. There are literally thousands of objects/accessories that can be created or adapted, all readily available through sites like thingiverse. One object is a bracket to mount a gopro camera to record skate/scooter sessions which will be a big part of the project.

After the initial introduction and demonstration of the project, people can choose and order their parts which we’ll print out ready for the next session. We will use web based tools to show what others have chosen and keep everyone interested between sessions.
This online tool is an important component as we will be trialling different ways of keeping a group ‘together’ through digital forums and could be a prototype of how we engage with people from book clubs and such things between meetups (a combination of wiki, moodle, website and social media)

2. Skate / Scooter session at ‘The Chan’ with local skate gurus. Firstly we’ll attach the bits that we printed out to customise the scooters but also attach and the mount the camera. There will be demonstrations and lessons in the latest board dexterity. Once comfortable we will mount the GoPro action camera and film a POV video, everyone will have the opportunity to produce some video
assembling the gopro mount heading off with the mounted gopro

3. Video editing session at the Darwin Digital Hub. Participants will edit their footage, put it to music and get their newly minted video up online (youtube). The process of sorting out and quickly editing footage will be produced on open source technologies, this democratises the process so participants can continue to work from home without the outlay of money, which young people don’t have.
