Laptop Lending Program Guidelines

The City of Darwin Libraries in conjunction with the Darwin Digital Hub have launched a laptop lending program. This allows members of the City of Darwin Libraries to borrow a laptop for use inside the library. These laptops have wireless internet access, Open Office software, and web browsers.

Borrowing Procedures

  • You must show your City of Darwin Library card to borrow a laptop.
  • Laptops are for in-library use only.
  • Laptops are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Laptops are available to permanent library members. If your borrowing privileges are suspended for any reason you will be unable to access library resources.
  • Laptops are not connected to the public printer.
  • Laptops have the following programs installed:

  • A basic knowledge of computers is required. Staff can provide you with simple instructions and assistance; and web based material on some common functions is available.
  • Please return the laptop to staff after your session is over to have it checked in and removed from your library card.
  • If you are using the laptop at the end of the day it must be returned to library staff 30 minutes prior to the library closing.
  • No laptops can be borrowed 30 minutes prior to the library closing.
  • Any documents saved on the laptop will be lost immediately upon the restarting the laptop.
  • These are ‘public use’ computers, make sure you logout of all accounts before you return the computer.
  • If you fail to return the laptop before the library closes you will be billed for the replacement cost of the laptop and accessories.
  • Each laptop will be loaned with the following accessories: Logitech headphones, mouse, power cord and carry case.
